In December 2012, Schweikert learned from news reports that he was going to lose his seat on the Committee on Financial Services for the 113th United States Congress; he joined Justin Amash of Michigan and Tim Huelskamp of Kansas in a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner, demanding to know why they had lost their "plum" committee posts. Politico quoted a Republican Steering Committee member as saying that Schweikert, along with colleagues Huelskamp and Amash, who were also stripped of committee assignments, were "the most egregious assholes" in the House Republican Conference.
