because they cannot get everything they want and refuse to compromise to get anything done. Their modus operandi now is to wait until things become crises before doing anything about it so they can get the maximum effect.

Unfortunately, the maximum effect is making the US look like morons and crashing the national economy in the process. But hey, scorched earth tactics work in politics, right?
