My Political Strategy to Solve the Government Shut-Down Crisis [View all]

President Obama has the votes in the House for a clean CR. There are reports that upwards of 100 Republicans will vote with all the Democrats for a CR Resolution with no strings attached. All we need is 17 or 18. The Hastert rule stands in our way (a Majority of the Republican caucus must favor a bill for it to reach the floor). The Hastert rule amounts to a Republican House filibuster that ostensibly requires a 3/4ths vote for any legislation to pass that the Democrats agree with.

President Obama should just call on Speaker Boehner to allow for a simple up or down vote. That's Democracy.

"Speaker Boehner, just call for a vote, a clean vote, and let the people's Representatives decide."
