(57,936 posts)We have been working for universal healthcare for years.
It's just a matter of human decency. Other developed countries have healthcare for all one way or another. We don't. That demonstrates a lack of human decency.
It is odd to me that so many Republicans claim to be pro-life but oppose the thing that more than any other, will save lives. Unbelievable.
I lived in several European countries, and enjoyed the single payer healthcare. It frees patients and doctors from financial fears, for the patient when he or she becomes ill or needs medical care, and for the doctor, when he treats a patient who may be indigent, unemployed or have no money.
And in my experience in Europe, those who want to spend a lot of money on healthcare and get a deluxe health insurance plan can do so. I think it will be the same way here.
Just give this healthcare law a chance. The law can be amended if people really, really don't like some aspect of it.
But all of us have a responsibility to care for the safety and security of our fellow Americans. And this health insurance bill is just one part of caring for the safety and security of all Americans.
Hey! We drive carefully. We don't speed in dangerous zones. We obey stoplights. We insure our cars. We keep our homes hooked up to public sewage systems or have an alternative that does not pollute the world. We send our children to school or educate them at home. We are a responsible people. Trying our best to make sure that our fellow Americans have affordable healthcare is just another sign that we are a responsible nation.
We are our brothers' keepers. And that we should be.
