I mean DU isn't that powerful is it? I find it a valuable and interesting discussion board, but do you really think we set the tone in the media?

The reason is that Democrats are generally in favor of Tolerance and in favor of Government working. Our friends on the right are generally opposed to Tolerance and to Government Working - so we take more of a hit when we are partisan or when it's perceived that we aren't making Government work; that plus the fact that Centrist DLC Democrats generally play the media a bit better than the more liberal representatives creates a case for us being the non-partisan faction.

It is a problem, particularly in this case when it's so clearly the Republicans being obstructionist - polls generally show the American people seeing through this nonsense, but they do seem to want to suggest equivalency, which hurts us more.

Its like if you found out the town minister (in the 1800s perhaps when such things mattered) was sleeping around you might be shocked, but if you found out the town drunk was sleeping around it probably wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. And if the town gossip said "I saw both the Minister and the Town Drunk going into the bordello" it'd hurt one's reputation more.
