4. All this makes me wonder

how on earth the UK NHS was kicked off in the first place back in 1948. That didn't even need enrollment : superficially one day we didn't have it and the next day the entire population did from conception to death. I must remember to ask my mother.

For those who don't know - an element of the background was to protect our children's health following substantial loss of life of what would otherwise have been the working population following WW2.
