the day after Obama speaks, quoting a befuddled repug on the record complaining about how “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is”, conveniently an embarrassing but anonymous quote comes up from "high in the administration", tailored to the occasion. It makes it look like both sides are to blame, which is a meme the media are unable to resist.

Personally, I doubt it, and the president did well to address it today.
