It was an early earth probe sent to study other planets that crashed into an alien probe designed to sanitize planets of harmful bacteria. The two repaired each other and a probe seeking out and destroying illogical and imperfect life forms in the service of mankind ensued. Kirk got the probe to realize that it was itself illogical, imperfect, and harmful and needed to "sanitize" itself.

Romney likewise needs to see that his mission to serve the United States on behalf of a party that doesn't want to serve it and hates the federal government is illogical and he should sanitize himself by withdrawing.

Great analogy you have there.
