In reply to the discussion: The Brainwashing Of My Dad By Limbaugh, Fox & GOP Media [View all]BellaKos
(318 posts)Years ago, my well educated, soft spoken, kindly sister-in-law became a devotee of Neil Bourtz. At which point, she then became a ranting maniac who was hell-bent on telling *everyone* how uninformed they were of the truth. Main fear: the US will succumb to Islamic law.
Then, I noticed that two friends I've had for years have left the planet. One, a life-long Democrat, now believes that Obama's ACA is gonna' kill her. The other, a very well-educated, "country club" Republican, now believes that Obama is destroying the economy all by himself.
And just this year, I've learned that one of my buddies on the net fears that Obama is going to take away her guns -- to the extent that she has hidden guns all over her house, including under the pillow in her own bed.
The thing is that a normal person like me can't reason with these people. At the first suggestion that their "facts" are in dispute, they then begin to rant, listing the latest "talking points" in a very *aggressive* manner in an effort to intimidate, confuse, and render me silent.
Yes, my friends and relatives have been brainwashed. Right now, they just see me as hopelessly ill-informed by the "li'bril" media. But as time wears on and this infection of hatefulness further overcomes their senses, they will see me -- and you -- as "the enemy."
And, as I mentioned, they have guns.
