In reply to the discussion: Nice skyline, Porsche. [View all]cui bono
(19,926 posts)79. Doesn't bother me.
The 911 series has been around for a long, long time. It's not like they just came up with that name and then made the ad. What are they supposed to do, never have an ad with a NYC skyline in it? Why? It's been over 10 years now. How long is enough time to wait? Or should they retire what is possibly their signature model because of the unfortunate date of the terrorist attack?
If you want to connect your car to NYC using the skyline is certainly the way to do it. You don't want a shot of it sitting in traffic.
I don't believe they are trying to make a statement with it, they're not showing a skyline at the time of the attack.

I'm pretty sure the deadliest terrorist attack in modern human history is pretty iconic.

I've always associated the Beetle moreso with Ferdinand Porsche than with Hitler.

I'm pretty sure this is a fake advertisement. It exists nowhere other than on Imgur.

So it seems your real quarrel is with the concept of private property, not the ad.

Yes, they are symbols of money and greed. They are also very fun to drive.

And the ownership of the factory is ownership of the means of production.

It is the price, it is the purpose, it is the concentration of resources for a select market.

They aren't really peddling. The 911 is one of the greatest cars ever made.

Why don't you just answer the question upstream instead of pissing on this subthread?

I guess each person has a different concept of it. But I will probably forever know nine eleven...

I think it's a fine advertisement. I was 31 years old that day with an 11 year old

Are you seriously trying to argue that New Yorkers chose to co-opt that date?

I don't think anyone in Shanghai was thinking the way we do about NYC and 911...
