(17,911 posts)It's "secession" not "succession." A lot of people make that mistake; I'm just telling you for future reference.
Yes, I'm sure that if it were up for a popular vote, no state would vote to secede. There are a lot of military veterans down here, especially where I live, and very few of them would vote to leave the U.S. Southern states also receive a disproportionate amount of federal aid. A lot of people down here are rather ignorant, but they know where their money is coming from. We also have a lot of old people, many of whom are living off of Social Security. They certainly aren't going to vote to stop receiving those checks.
Southerners know their states can't and won't help them and the economy would fall to pieces if they left the U.S. Besides, even all of the southern states together would be no match for the U.S. military. Secession would be a very stupid thing to do on any level. Sure, there are some who would vote for secession enthusiastically, but most people down here know those people are idiots.
Trust me, I've lived down here all my life and I have deep roots here. Things would really have to get bad before secession would be considered. It would have to be a situation where they had nothing to lose, such as if the federal government collapsed and there was widespread anarchy.
