They figured out that Mittens is nothing but a placeholder candidate, the real Rethug race for the WH is four years from now. Rather than see time, energy and money going to beat the dead horse of Romney, they're psyching the base up for making sure they keep the House, and take the Senate.

Being as Barack Obama is relatively toothless without a Democratic Congress, and he does cave in to the Repukes often enough, they know they're on to something here.
