In reply to the discussion: Ranchers who supported Tea Party shutdown stunned at lack of federal aid. [View all]susanr516
(1,514 posts)They worship at the altar of "personal responsibility." They are opposed to TANF, SNAP, and WIC benefits because "you shouldn't have kids you can't afford." Yet, they're opposed to abortion. Their answer to unplanned pregnancy? "If you can't afford a baby, you shouldn't have sex."
Were there no weather reports? Did they not know a snowstorm was coming? They should take "personal responsibility" for their situations. After all, they CHOSE to raise more head of cattle than they could protect. Why should I have to pay for their "lack of responsibility?" They're businessmen, surely they knew something like this was possible. For Gawd's sake, it's October in SD--it's not like it's never snowed there at this time of year before!
Adding this, to make sure you understand:
Sorry, but these ranchers (and other Teabaggers) have been demanding that other people take "responsibility" for years. As far as I'm concerned, it's WAY past time they got their words thrown right back in their faces. I also believe they should get federal aid to help compensate for some of their losses, and I don't mind some of my tax dollars going to them, not because I feel anything for them, but because it's the right thing to do.
