In reply to the discussion: Ranchers who supported Tea Party shutdown stunned at lack of federal aid. [View all]Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)I do feel bad for them. Yes, they were (for the most part) idiots that supported the shutdown and the teapers. But, I've known farmers in my life and they aren't all that involved in national politics. Local, yes. But, they only know what's right in front of them. They're simple. They work hard. They believe in a God. They don't think school is as important as blood, sweat and tears.
And they've just gotten one of the hardest lessons of their lives. Who knows, maybe next time they hear of a hurricane in a 'black' state, or an earthquake in a 'liberal' state, they'll be a little more sympathetic. Probably not. But there is a little bit of hope.
I don't wish them the pain they're going through. They've seen a lot of pain over the years, already. Some of them could lose their farms/ranches.
DISCLAIMER: Not all farmers...by far...are RWNJs. I've also known some damned far left ones. They aren't normally the generational types, though.
