Why Is McConnell Being (Relatively) Reasonable About All of This? [View all]

One thing that has been a bit surprising, to me at least, is that McConnell seems to actually want to get the government reopened, wants to prevent default, and wants to work with the democrats to find a reasonable compromise.

The thing is, I don't understand why. He is usually one of the hardline, no compromise, screw Obama and the democrats, kind of republicans. Why has he, of all people, decided to not go along with the House republicans and the Tea Party, and actually try to solve the mess that Boehner and Co. have created? It is really surreal to see Mitch McConnell coming down on the side of reality and reason (at least as much as a republican can).

Any insight for me?
