In reply to the discussion: Politicususa: Proposed Senate Debt Ceiling Deal Is a Complete Crushing of the Republican Party [View all]byronius
(7,981 posts)33. My formerly-Republican business partner suggests Boehner will use the intransigence of the Teabagger
contingent as a cover excuse for bringing it to the floor. I hope this is true.
Only the fact that this has happened once before with a similar cast is keeping Everything from tanking. Good things are afoot, the world wants us to be all right, and the human spirit is alive and well in the USA; only a tight cadre of murderous religious sociopaths stands in the way. If the nation defaults the Republican Party becomes the Anarchist Mad Max Post-Apocalyptic Party forever, with no chance of rebranding and a certainty of a Teabagger Party splitting off. Truly, it is political suicide and a permanent historical stain for them.
If they step back from the brink now there's still a chance of American Amnesia keeping their black heart beating.

A "deal" in the Senate can give Capt. Orange cover for bringing it to a vote. (nt)

OK. The "Hastert Rule" would be at stake in any case where a majority of the GOP was not certain.
