5 years ago, he wouldn't have garnered anywhere near the support of the American public, as he has today.
It took 5 years, 6 down to the wire deals, a sequester and the current fiasco to swing the electorate to see that the modern gop has no interest in governing. And, even now, a full 35% of the electorate remains unconvinced.
