the edge of Erie County is full of gun nuts and Tea Party crazies. In fact most of small town and rural PA is. Basically, if there is a divide between voting patterns it is mostly an urban versus rural divide. Basically the closer one lives to a city center the more likely they are to vote Democratic even in an otherwise Southern Republican strongholds. The further one is from a city center - the more likely they are to vote Republican even in an otherwise Northern Democratic strongholds. There are exceptions to this. But pretty much that is where the divide is. So, getting rid of the South is not an option anyway. But even if it were - There is still no way of getting rid of the pockets that are full of right-wing reactionaries.
