8. He's an odd duck, actually.

In college, he had a signed portrait of Reagan and would stop dead in his tracks if the school's bell tower played some patriotic song. He was so far right, he was left, if you catch my meaning.

Then came Gulf War II. He totally believed the WMD angle, despite my repeated calls for sensibility. It was all star-spangled bullshit from him until his sister's husband got a fourth deployment, and she was stuck home with the kids and a nervous breakdown. Then his younger brother went gay, and he had to come to terms with that, which he has with a vengeance, I must say. He has become an equal rights crusader for LGBT people.

Like I said, not the usual winger.
