(62,325 posts)about feeding their children than in how they look. And some are single parents, trying to raise children while holding down a job.
And some people don't put such a high priority on how THEY look and worry more about how their children are doing.
But we live in a self-absorbed society.
Few working mothers today have five minutes to devote to their looks, let alone a committed thirty minutes each day. Children get sick, which is likely to interrupt the average mother's day eg. Making such a commitment, unless there is a nanny in the picture, impossible.
Maybe she is one of the few lucky ones who has help, a nanny maybe, and a husband who supports her. Good for her. It would be great if all women had such circumstances, but they don't, not in the real world.
Otoh, maybe her comment should not have been taken so literally. It may simply have been an attempt to be flippant.
I just heard from a single, disabled parent of two young kids today. They got a notice that their food stamps will be cut by $50.00 from now on. It may as well be $1,000.00 in this case.
I don't think that parent is worrying about body image right now. Some people just can't afford to devote that much time to their own 'desires'.
If you are one of the lucky ones who can, it's not advisable to rub it in the faces of those who are not. It shows a lack of sensitivity to other people at the very least.
