117. The facts you refer to are not established on this thread. Sure, the South turned. I was there when

it happened. But that's something you don't seem to want to explain, and it's not their fault that they don't know it.

But it turned because the Democrats eventually took the 'Republican' side to be anti-racist and to de-institutionalize racism, which Southern whites, who had intergenerationally enculturated racisim, just couldn't abide. And so came the yellow dog Democrats for at least twenty years, who have turned Southern Republican since the 70's. But the leadership infrastructure and voter suppression mechanisms were always there.

If you have hard feelings toward Democrats here, just know that there are lots and lots of Democrats all throughout the South who are building voting blocks in tough places. Also, remember that it's hard for a region to live down any of its systematic oppressions. But immigrants are moving there, anyway, and blue states will likely emerge eventually.

On a personal level, I live in a pretty safe blue state, so my hub and I are registering ourselves in a red district in Florida -- Vern Buchanan's district -- just so I can fact sheet like hell on street corners, and make a dent in the culture of stupidity that that chamber of commerce panderer to old folks' ignorance has built -- and try like hell to get his ass out of there.
