It's using one asshat's stupidity to justify another just because it makes your asshat look less asshatty. It always cheapens a discussion of the core issue and rarely makes one side look better than the other.

Mahrer's remarks about Mooselini were wrong...and you can't cover it up in the fact he's a comedian. It was over-the-top and he could have used other verbage to get the same punchline out. I can point to far more of Mahrer's uses of comedy and satire that did hit the mark (see New Rules) that didn't use words intended to shock and offend. Using words that people find offensive in order to inflame or ridicule is a cheap way out...
