Feel free to take issue with Maher's choice of words, I do as well. That does not mean that the content of what was said was equal, nor that the intention was the same, nor that the targets were of equal standing.
The main issue with what Rush said was that he lied while he slandered. He made specific untrue allegations toward an innocent American and against her parents as well. His target not a famous person, his slanders slur filled and his claims as to what she said utterly false. He made things up and called her names for it.
Trust me, the courts will explain to you and to Rush the gaping differences in that which you wish to portray as equal things.
The whole of your issue with Maher is 'a comic uses nasty language' as if he was the first. Here is a link to some Sarah Silverman material to discuss. Perhaps you need to alert the media that she and Maher are such nasty kidz with the language and all!
