30. My father and one of my friends is EXACTLY the same way

I have an interest in firearms and enjoy recreational shooting but these people are beyond the beyond.

A friend is buying up and hoarding everything guns, ammo he can, then complains about shortages and high prices. I try to reason with him that this paranoia-driven panic-buying is causing the shortages. He just dismisses that and basically says, in so many words, "I'm not paranoid, it's just they're out to get my guns". He has guns everywhere. Once I was there having dinner with his family and we heard noises out back and his neighbor's dog barking. He grabs his pistol and asks me to come outside with him to check on what it was. For all we know it was an owl or dead tree branch falling in the woods. He knew it was bullshit too but I could tell he was enjoying traipsing about his property with a loaded pistol in hand. I honestly believe one of the things on his bucket list is to empty a seventeen round 9mm magazine into an intruder in his house.

My father keeps guns everywhere in his house and vehicles. We were cleaning his interior of one and a pistol fell out of a bin. "Don't fuck with an old man!" he boasts. He shows me where he keeps guns hidden: Drawers, inside grandfather clocks etc. I wouldn't be surprised to find one on top of the toilet tank between the tissue box and conch seashell. He's constantly in fear of someone other than white anglo raiding his home. I'm like, "WTF! this is an exclusive neighborhood in a redneck town in a huge geographic area whiter than a fish's belly". Says he's too old to fight, so he needs a gun. Who the hell is he gonna fight?
