General Discussion
In reply to the discussion: I can't believe how much my family has changed after being brainwashed by the GOP. [View all]silverweb
(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Except for my proudly liberal offspring, most members of my immediate family are TeaGOPers (and one rabid Libertarian) with whom I absolutely, categorically refuse to discuss politics in any form.
As meadowlark5 has already said here, "...if we want to maintain a relationship ... it's best if we don't talk about politics. It changes no one's mind and it accomplishes nothing...."
In the recent past, I've said the very same thing in refusing to engage in such "discussions." I've also said, "I'd rather we get along, especially at this point in our lives, and if you insist on pursuing this subject, we won't."
I've left the house to avoid being harassed into these "discussions" and I put "discussion" in quotes because it never is. It's a bullying fest for them, a contest to see who can be the most derogatory while attempting to browbeat the family liberal into submission.
The last attempt was when one person yelled, "I have a right to my opinion!" My reply was, "Yes, you do. I absolutely agree 100%. And I have the right to walk out on it."
Then I flashed a big smile and walked out. God, that felt good!
