the slurs aren't even the worst of what Rush said. Making it just about the slurs plays into the right wing nonsense of "If I don't use the N word I'm not a racist no matter what else I say".

The comedy defense fails on multiple levels: The main one being that there are quite a few right wing comedians, they are dicks, and they're still racists, misogynists, and homophobic. And they're exactly as funny as you'd expect someone that puts themselves forward as a conservative comedian to be.

When in doubt, ask yourself which one is more likely to be encouraging their listeners to send people death threats. No slurs needed.
