Several languages, recognizes any piece of classical music immediately, loves (and reads!) Edgar Allen Poe. Mark Twain, Voltaire, Ambrose Bierce, and a host of European authors too numerous to mention. He's a superb woodworker and took years of lessons to learn folk painting. On top of that, he writes well and is an absolute stickler for proper grammar and usage. When I took up beekeeping, he was excited to learn about that, too.

He's always been somewhat conservative and traditional in his outlook although I remember him as quite fair and very logical in his approach to everything when I was a kid, but since Mom died he spends hours a day watching Fox (for company? background noise?) and I'm not even sure whether he realizes how extreme he's become.
