JFK tries to calm a spitting-mad LBJ

On the campaign trail in 1960, John F. Kennedy was booked to speak at the Amarillo airport. They had paused air traffic for the event, but that didn’t keep some Republican pilots from disrupting the speech by running their engines.

Contrasting himself from LBJ, JFK handled the affair with relaxed aplomb, joking that this must be Nixon arriving. He carried on with his speech, because “They can’t stop the truth anyway. I don’t care how much that engine warms up.”
