5. You can add them to your Trash Can

I'm not sure if you need a star to do so, but on "My Account" page there is a tab for "Trash Can" where you can auto-trash threads:

Auto-trash by Keyword

When you auto-trash by keyword, threads which contain that keyword in their titles will be removed from your view when browsing DU. To add a keyword, enter it into the box below. You may enter a single word (eg. chicken) or a string of words (eg. corn flakes). Capitalization is not important.

It's wonderful for NOT have to see those subjects that are annoying or useless - or that raise your blood pressure. "Palin" was one of the first keywords I added!
