Let's talk about Tuesday's election for a second [View all]

I remember the interim between the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. And I remember that every time an office flipped from Democratic to Republican, the press deemed it a "harbinger of 2012" - because, after all, everyone knows that when a DINO is replaced by someone who admits to being a Republican in Pig's Knuckle, Arkansas, while a first-term Democrat is in the White House, said first-term Democrat needs to call the moving truck Right Now.

If the Virginia polls are even slightly accurate, on Tuesday Terry McAuliffe is going to tear Ken Cuccinelli in half. Will the press pronounce this election an "anomaly" (for some reason, Virginia tends to prefer governors of the party not currently holding the White House), a "rejection of religious extremism" or a "harbinger of 2014"?
