(62,536 posts)The GOTV effort is done particularly by activists, leftists. Not moderates, not centrists, leftists. Moderates run for election because those people who don't care about voting won't vote for you if you're seem as extreme, because they want to feel like they're moderates (even if their lack of voting means that they themselves are disillusioned in the process).
The GOTV effort is them stymied by those who depress the moderate electors vote by bashing on the moderates and causing the activist left to also be disillusioned in the process.
The best thing to do then, is to unify in off-season elections, and STFU about bashing the moderate Democrats or Independents that we'd support, if only so that we can retain the power of the House, since even the most extreme right wing Democrat will vote for progressive legislation 80% of the time.
This, of course, is an impossibility, because there are ratfuckers out there who will try to depress and disillusion the activist left just as much as there are those in the activist left who themselves are already disillusioned and don't want to GOTV. Combine it together and you understand why the vote in off-season elections always favors the opposition. Particularly when it comes to purists.
