(30,096 posts)There are progressive Christian faiths but they are shouted down across this board. I tend to give up defending myself because I've had people blast me the rest of the day and have even had them follow me from thread to thread about the subject. The fact is, in the case of Pope Francis, his simple acts are a total 180 compared to Benedict. Change can take a long time, especially in an organization as old as the RCC. Simple acts need to be commended and thoughts outside of current norm need to be encouraged.
FWIW-I'm a member of a reconciling Methodist church. We're still Methodists but we're fighting against a number of the more recent changes in the church-changes that were brought about by zealously conservative members and don't always reflect the views of the body. (The change in the acceptance of abortion and the near acceptance of same sex marriage just a few years ago has all taken a backseat to politics.)
