(805 posts)I do have an IPod Touch, IPhone and just got an iPad 4 a couple months ago. There are several reasons - for me they are user friendly, they rarely ever crash, I've never got a virus on any of the devices that has wifi, I've never had to replace a battery (which is a good thing because Apple would have to do it for me and I'm sure it's not cheap, no way I would attempt to change it myself), never had to call tech support, and the biggest one - I have never had a problem with any Apple device I have ever owned and I'm an extremely heavy user. I had several iPods before the Touch, I didn't replace them because I needed to, it was because I wanted to. I've also never experienced trouble with iTunes, except once, and that wasn't even an iTunes issue. I had got some maleware on my PC and it prevented iTunes from working. As soon as I got rid of the maleware, iTunes worked fine again. You might say I have been lucky, but I do take good care of them. They aren't ideal for people who want to work with a more open OS, but I'm not that person. Some people "Jailbreak" their devices so they can open it up more, but that's not my cup of tea either. Yes they are expensive, that is the biggest drawback, but I really like them and if they are going to be reliable, I don't mind spending the extra money. However if that changes, I would then be looking at something else for sure. So far all has been well.
My dad however hates Apple - no idea why as he's never owned one, never used one in his life. I do get an awful lot of abuse for buying them, to the point of ridiculousness. He bought my mother a tablet that was half the cost of an iPad, then tried to tell me mine was an inferior product, telling me I couldn't do this or that with it, proving to me he clearly has never even researched them because he was wrong. The thing is I don't care what other people prefer. They can buy what they like, I'll buy what I like. No big deal. I never tried to get him to buy any of their stuff, I don't own shares in Apple or anything! Besides, I'd rather he didn't buy an Apple device because if anything went wrong with his, I would never hear the end of it!
Edited to add: I do have one problem with Apple - their charge cables fall apart within months and considering what they charge for them, that's ridiculous. Before you know it the thing looks like you've been flossing with it for months. Having said that, while they fall apart they still work for quite some time - but I just go and get an off brand cable for Apple devices, saves a lot of money that way. Oh and the new OS, some of the icons look like preschoolers designed them, very basic looking compared to their old ones.
