IF you need to get an older model fixed you have to hope that you can get the part you need on the online Apple Store and then take the part and your computer to the store to have it fixed. I wanted to add more RAM memory to my IMac (first generation but in mint condition). That sucke is heavy so, while I was there I bought the 4GB Ram stick to be delivered to the store. I then had to actually go back to the store to sign for the RAM stick so that they could then install it in my computer and upgrade the OS to the most current one. At that point I waited until the work was done so that I didn't have to back to the store a 3rd time.
I had not been to the mall in a long time and saw that Microsoft has a store opening up just down the corrirdor from the Apple store.
