My husband had a beard in his 20s and 30s. We'd been together nine years before he suddenly came downstairs one day with it shaved off. I was in total shock. I'd never seen his face before. I got used to it.

Fast forward three decades or so, and he decides to grow his beard back. Tired of shaving. Let me tell you something: what was sexy and manly at 28 looked like old bum at 58. Really, I had to say, "You look like an incontinent old vagrant bum." He shaved it off and all's well again. He doesn't shave on weekends sometimes. And I totally get that. But no more beards, please.
