(5,662 posts)I've only owned Macs since 1988. In that time (25 years), I've had four computers including my current one. Two I replaced because the processing speed on the older computer couldn't handle a new game I wanted to play and one I replaced because I needed a laptop instead of a desktop (I gave the desktop to a friend and it ran for them for another seven or eight years). I have never in all of that time had a serious problem with any of my Macs and the one time I did have to take my computer in they fixed it for free even though it was years out of warranty.
In that same span of time, my dad and brother (who use PCs) have gone through at least eight or nine computers each. They're constantly getting viruses. I have to use PCs at work and they crash *way* more often than my Mac at home besides generally being a pain in the ass to work with. The other day I was trying to resize a document in Word so I could see what page I was on (which was hidden, of course, by Windows' obnoxious, non-collapsiable menu bar at the bottom) and I had to resize it from the top and then drag the whole thing up because there was no way to "reach" the corner to resize it.
Every other OS Microsoft releases is an unusable piece of shit. They can't even create a decent web-based email application in 2013 FFS. And their customer service is useless. They locked me out of my email for no reason, offered to send my a text with a code to release it (at my expense) except the menu in the request form didn't scroll down far enough to include my country (it stopped at Mauritius so tough shit N-Z countries). I emailed them asking them to unlock the account and they sent me a link that didn't work in an email I couldn't respond to and their service website was down for the next two days. Ridiculous.
I'm absolutely the least fashion conscious person you will ever meet in your life and I love my MacBook because it has a pleasant, intuitive interface, never crashes, never gets viruses and lasts forever. And anyone who says that makes me a "fanboi" is a condescending asshole who needs to grow the hell up.
I'm an average consumer that likes a solid, user-friendly product and doesn't mind paying a little extra for something I know is going to last longer and give me less aggro. Buy what works for you and stop expressing your insecurity by crapping all over what works for other people.
