it was out there in bios and blogs for those who bothered to look. She was obviously a RW hack from the beginning. One of the things I always do when a writer or journalist comes to prominence is to look up their bios and who they have worked for to get an idea of their bias and if they are credible or just propagandists for a side. It makes it easier to identify the astroturf and easier to identify the real journalists who search for and report facts.
