Phillips' influence over his community is far reaching.
He began working as an attorney at the Home School Legal Defense Association and has become a popular speaker at home school conventions.
Phillips has also been active in the Tea Party in San Antonio.

Doug Phillips guy is really out there - he said Sarah Palin was too “pro-evolution, pro-contraceptive", and “pro-homosexual” for true conservatives to support, plus, as a woman, she had no business running for office anyway, because the Bible says women are supposed to stay home and take care of the babies.
