1. Here's what happened in Tampa.

Hotels and Motels booked solid, they did well. The Convention related events were run and catered by out of town companies, so those profits didn't remain local. Local people people hired to work those events got stiffed on pay. What they got was far less than promised, the companies kept a sizeable amount of the tips. Local bars and resturants not connected with the convention did very poorly...regular customers stayed home, or went out far away from the convention. The cities, primarily Tampa but a little St Pete, were fully compensated for there convention-related costs. The police/security presence was heavy, however there was no violence (from protestors or police), no riots, only a couple arrests. Police response was restrained but firm, Police Chief was on front lines talking to protesters, etc. Several protestors quoted in media as being very impressed with actions of TPD and Police Chief (who even posed for pictures with protestors).
