Obamacare Lowers A Diabetic Woman’s Premium From $509 To $1

With all the negativity surrounding the website for the ACA, it certainly is gratifying to find a success story like Pittsburgh resident Gail Roach. The 57-year-old Pennsylvania woman with Type II diabetes had been paying $509 a month for her retirement healthcare premium from the Pittsburgh School Board. Instead of becoming discouraged over the bugs in the website, Roach was proactive and dialed the number listed on the website. She spoke with a specialist who walked her through the process and examined all of her options.

The policy she eventually selected was a reasonable $70 a month. But because she qualified for tax credits and the Cost Sharing Benefit, she now is only going to have to pay $1.11 a month.

That’s chump change, folks. And a whopping savings of $507.89 each month that she can now put in a savings account or spend as she chooses. Her deductible is only $26.50, with $20 co-pays. Without even knowing her annual income, it’s safe to say that this particular premium is incredibly affordable for almost any individual anywhere in America.

“I’m telling people they need to look into it. They need to be patient about it,” said Roach. “Go to the website. If you can’t get on, call the number on the website and just be very patient because it’s very much worth it.”
