Seminole: Teacher showed wooden genitals

A Lyman High teacher faces firing because she made inappropriate and embarrassing comments to students and showed and talked to them about a "wooden object that represented male genitals," the Seminole County school district said Wednesday. Danelle J. Michaud could have her employment with the school district terminated Tuesday by the Seminole County School Board. The board suspended her without pay last month.

Superintendent Walt Griffin recommended Michaud be fired last month, citing a long record of prior discipline problems and conduct that violated rules for professional conduct and ethics. Michaud had been reprimanded, warned and even fined repeatedly dating back to 1986, district documents show.

Most of the incidents involved "inappropriate or demeaning language to students." The state yanked her teaching certificate for a year in 1991 and fined her $1,000 in 2009. Michaud has worked for Seminole schools for 31 years. In addition to accusations she'd used "inappropriate language" in her classroom, Michaud was also accused in the past of using profanity in front of students, making derogatory comments about other school staff members and leaving students unsupervised.
