20. For anyone still needing a workaround,

I tried out the new website thehealthsherpa.com and it does work as advertised. No worries about data theft because it only asks your zip code, income, # of people to be insured, and whether you smoke. Then up pops a list of plans available in your area, complete with costs. I tried it under several different scenarios and got good info each time. Of course you still have to call the insurance company direct to sign up and if you qualify for medicaid, you need to do that independently as well. But I think that would be easier than struggling with the government website IF it's still not working for you.

I intend to submit another of my letters to the editor of our local weekly tomorrow, and I had to check out thehealthsherpa.com myself before recommending it. Unfortunately all the plans available here are from companies already under federal scrutiny for grandfather clause fraud, but forewarned is forearmed. I know better than to say that so completely in my letter, but I can word it in such a way as to share the info discreetly w/o getting sued.
