I'm sure there are people who have a passion for Canon cameras. My guess is that while they don't share your passion for your Nikon, they "get" it. But someone who gets by with a point and shoot, may not "get" why someone spends what they do for an SLR.

I am particularly passionate about a particular band and have spent significant sums in pursuit of that passion (although I know folks who have spent far more). Other people are passionate about other bands that I don't like at all. But I get their passion even if I don't feel it. The difference between the bands is entirely subjective.

I don't know anyone who is going without food or shelter because they spent their money on an iPad. What I don't get is why it matters to you whether they spend $500 on an iPad or $150 on some other device and $250 on other stuff.
