In reply to the discussion: Sorry CBS - I won't watch 60 Minutes again [View all]markpkessinger
(8,918 posts)17. Well, you aren't missing much . . . `
I just watched tonight's segment, titled "The Giving Ploedge: A new club for billionairs," featuring Charlie Rose interviewing Warren Buffet and Bill and Melinda Gates. It was a paean to philanthropy and the 'virtuous' billionairs among us. I have nothing against philanthropy, but I threw up in my mouth just a little when one person in the segment, one Randall Lane, made this statement: "Government is showing, you know, over the past couple decades that it can no longer solve the great problems of the day. Now these philanthropists who have incredible wealth, the problem-solving brainpower, and also the name and the influence to be able to open doors are uniquely qualified right now to solve the huge problems."
