(5,744 posts)Limbaugh has made a living out of demeaning and denigrating women on an almost daily basis for the past 15 years.
Maher has repeatedly stood up for womens' rights, both on his tv show and his stand-up routines. Not only for individual women who were the target of right-wing scum, like Hillary Clinton, Sherly Sherrod and Sonia Sotamayor; but also for all women, like when he defended womens' right to decide over their own reproductive system when the Republicans started their crusade against it.
And yes, occasionally Maher has made 'offensive' jokes about a woman/women. He did the same thing about men, by the way. Way more often. The difference is: when men are the target of his colorful, edgy humor, you never hear anybody complain. But make a joke about a woman, and everybody throws a fit. Some women feel they should be exempt of being made fun of.
Maher has also made occasional jokes about Asians ('bad drivers') and black people, but he draws on stereotypes that we already have ourselves, and that's what makes it funny. It doesn't make him a racist for drawing upon our stereotypes. I love it when his audience goes all "oooooh" and "aaaah" and starts to hiss. Some people are just too sensitive to handle anything.
