I think it may have something to do with the belief that you don't really have to follow the *teachings* of Christ, all you have to do is accept Him as your Saviour, even if you have done nothing but rotten things all your life and you are on your death bed when you make your acceptance speech.

Food stamps for people, farm subsidies to farmers of which some farms are corporations.
