I remember lots of Zimmerman defenders arguing that it was perfectly plausible for Martin to have backtracked just to accost this stranger for no apparent reason. These posters were shrewd enough not to bring race directly into it, but there was a definite push to say that teenage boys always have a chip on their shoulder and like to sucker punch people just for the hell of it.
