It's hooked up in such a way that every phone socket in the house works with any old phone. We've had this number for nearly 25 years, so it seemed worth preserving.
It rings about 8 times a day, mostly during dinner. Virtually all telemarketers and surveys. We never answer it.
But it does allow for free phone calls to Europe and that's a good enough reason for keeping it.

It would be impossible (with the tech-shield in my roof) to not have a landline.
