Sex is just another activity and a kind of silly one at that. Much like football, boxing and war. Yeah, you're free to engage in it but it's pretty unnecessary. Yes, we are out there and we find all these sex obsessed threads debating the legitimacy of porn against actual regular sex beside the point.
Have you considered that maybe the hyper-activity of sex in humans (and bonobos) by comparison to the other animals is similar to the traits of a lion's mane or a peacock's tail, artificially exaggerated by group selection? In other words, the obsession is totally of our own making over thousands of years but no more necessary than a peacock's extravagant and weighty tail. Consider the fact that for most other species in the animal kingdom sex is seasonal. We are the oddball on this one.
Maybe, just maybe, Sheldon Cooper's right and we're wrong. 
That's all I wanted to say on that.
