A long time ago I worked a summer job at B&N. What most likely happened is the inventory system showed her that a copy was at the store. The system will also tell her whether it is on a shelf, display or on a kiosk. However, sometimes books are misplaced, in the back or being held upfront for a customer order. If the book is not where it is supposed to be, CSRs will say they don't have it available, because it is not locatable, has not been officially stocked yet or is already promised to someone else.

They would do the same thing for other books, regardless of the political ideology of the author.
